Working with the plants has increased my ability to work at a very subtle level mediumistically with my art. This has mainly manifested in attunment to the traditions of working with the Orixas ~ an African pantheon of divine nature forces.
This has happened naturally through my connection to plants, and through my dreams. I feel very humbled by the connection and African Brazilian culture that has supported this connection. The plants, visions, songs, dance and rhythms dedicated to these natural forces makes me make art.
This work to date is a study. I am refinining it. I have many pieces but how I am working alongside the plants, and this mediumistic process with the Orixas is still in a process.
Below is a selection - also please see instagram where I post a few images. If any touch you, I’d love to know, and most pieces are available as a print or original. Just get in touch direct. Thank you, Elle.

It's a feeling of needing to move that makes me paint. A translation.... ☆
Yemanja, betray her and angry dragons lie in wait. She's suffers no fools. No fools at all.
All washed away.
Sketching after ceremony is the way my body best can translate the energies danced with, songs still singing, the rhythms reverberating...sound gets transcribed into image, and cultural memories stored deep inside resonate remembering..... ♡
Oba has gone deep into my heart.

Finding centre no matter what moves.
No longer the seeker but the seer.
Letting yourself free.

The moon in her heart, her loyal caboclos will be out in the dark, collecting the sediment from under the lake. Nana takes you into her arms. Sleep. Healing is needed.
Last night I dreamt of the Orixá Nanã, I was putting my hands through the road to get to the mud underneath the tarmac so I could paint my face with her clay.
A choir sang, all with mud on their faces. Draped in a purple cloak she entered my energy field and became me, or, I became her.
I found myself taking a woman into my arms, wrapping her in the purple cloak and rocking her to heal her while singing to Exu. It was so strong I began to wake up to lights flashing in my room...but holding onto the dream, my father then arrived, and told me before I woke up and the dream ended I had to receive some markings from Obaluae...they were like stickers and preceded with urgency to attach these markings to my left wrist, as tools to remember to use to heal others.
Trusting the magic of these dreams ♡
In awe of this tradition and the spiritual world.

Sketching, becomes story-making.
From unconscious places, spirits make themselves known. Inner nature, finding it's way through.
The Orishas touching me from a place of dream-like-somatic-reality that is simply unexplainable other than understanding the subtle field of energies, ancestral pulses, electricity.
Formless, becomes form. Trusting in creativity....☆
