The Essence of Life. Justice for the Ocean. 2026

Cyanotypes from drawings on unrecycable plastics

Alice Coltrane said improvisation was the essence of life. Her music has inspired these drawings made into Cyanotypes.

For 21 days I listened to her each morning with a coffee in the sun, followed by Whale song and drew. It was to interupt my pattern of despair with the World.

Despair at the plastic in the Ocean, despair at the devastation caused by fishing and trawling. Despair with my feelings of being powerlessness and of paralysis.

So, with Alice’s rivers of sound, rhythms new to me, I could distract my grief while intent on connecting to the Ocean. Meditating to Alice, and then the songs of Whales I allowed myself the freedom to improvise, and create from feeling. To trust where the movement is. My desire, to magnify what the Ocean does to restore herself. What was met, was the divine forces of devotion, the sea began to come alive as I deepend my commitment to uncovering the energetics of restoration, justice, otherworldly assistance, ancestral humility, and the forces at work in the intelligence of recovery, faith and hope.
